mustard seed 1010report 261x300 The faith of a Mac truckWe’re all familiar with the scripture;

Matthew 17:20
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

What I think happens however is that we limit ourselves into only ever aspiring to have that much. Or somehow we think that it is so hard to achieve, that even getting this little amount would be harder than moving that mountain. Jesus is trying to teach us here that it only takes a small amount of believing to receive from God.

There are really only a couple of things you and I need to know to receive anything from God.

  • What’s available.

  • To get any answered prayer, receive any promise of God you first have to know if it’s available right? You can’t expect to receive anything from God that He has not promised. Now I know God is almighty and if He sends a ‘pillar of fire’ to light your way out of a forest that’s His business and that is in the category of phenomenon. In other words God can do that if He so chooses but He doesn’t promise every time we get lost or need help this will happen. He did it in the Old Testament of course for the people of Israel but it’s not a promise to you or me. Our answers are based on what is available and since there are over 900 promises in the Bible to you and I it would be wise to do some study to see what God has made available.

  • How to receive it.

  • The how of receiving is very important and people come up with all sorts of home remedies to help God out, I guess. If you needed to sell your home for example, some people say you need to put a St. Christopher statue buried upside down in your front yard. This is their ‘how to receive’ but it’s not written anywhere in the Bible that I know of. There are a lot of strange things people do to help God out but in reality they only delay or cancel any answered prayer as their requests just bounce back down off the ceiling because they do not line up with the word. Every ‘how to’ in God’s word is interwoven with believing.

    Mark 11:24
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

There are very few circumstances where you’ll need to do anything else and many of those are for the ‘mature’ believer and not those who are still dealing with the milk of the word.

    Hebrews 5:13
For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.

Don’t get to upset with this; there are a lot more ‘babes’ out there than you think. Besides believing is for everyone and required whether you are a milk or meat believer. So let’s get to some believing.

    Believing requires action.
    James E. Faust:

It can’t get much simpler than this and you can read it time and time again in the word of God. I really do not like the word ‘faith’ when it comes to prayers and receiving from God. It is the Greek word pistus and can be translated as such but is really more accurately translated ‘believing.’ Faith denotes sitting back and letting something come to you where as believing is an action word and implies you doing your part to receive from God. If the Bible says “where two or more are gathered in my name” doesn’t that require some action? You have to find at least one other person who’llmac truck 1010report 300x215 The faith of a Mac truck agree with you in prayer right? That’s action, and if it says to “prove me now and see if I won’t open the windows of heaven” then that requires effort and then God will follow through. The proving is in tithing and that really can test some folks. The ‘ing’ on the end of believe denotes a verb which is an action word.

Believe it is possible to solve your problem. Tremendous things happen to the believer. So believe the answer will come. It will.
    Norman Vincent Peale:

This is very simple and yet so powerful. God has longed for you to believe Him at His word and He’s gone to great lengths to make it very easy and effective. Don’t make it complicated which is so easy to do in this world. Keep it as simple as it is and your believing will soar as you begin to understand God better each day. Never limit yourself to your frail understanding but always look to God for help and assurance through His word and in prayer. As you grow you’ll believe way more than any mustard seed, you’ll be believing behind the wheel of a huge Mac truck.

Up to verse 6 it is much the same and God’s word warns against the greed of men and the false trust they have in their fleeting riches. Still doesn’t sound real great huh?

God has chosen the simple things to confound the wise but I can’t imagine that He has chosen to do so in this most vital question.
